EXPERIENCE CANADA

Framed by three mighty oceans, Canada is the second largest country in the world. Its territory stretches from Atlantic to Pacific coast, expands all the way from its southern border with USA, reaches the Arctic Circle and continues for another 800 km towards the North Pole. It is a vast world of spectacular wilderness, enthralling adventure and fascinating cultural diversity.

The name Canada comes from a Huron-Iroquois word "Kanata" which means village or small community. Canada has a vibrant human history going back about 15,000 years to the last Ice Age. The forefathers of today's First Nations people moved across the continent to all corners. European exploration of Canada began around the early 1500's (aside from a visit by the Vikings around 1000 AD - what happened to them is still unknown). "New France" was founded in 1534 in what is now Quebec. Throughout the 17th century, fur-trading companies dominated this new country and the British Hudson's Bay Company moved into Ontario. The struggle for power between the French and English continued through the mid-18th Century, finally ending with the British defeat of the French in Quebec City in 1759. In 1763 France gave Canada to Britain. The Dominion of Canada was established in 1867 and once the famous Canadian Pacific Railway was completed, the west coast was linked with the Dominion. In 1931 Canada became a member of the Commonwealth, and in 1949, Newfoundland became the last province to join Canada.

The population of Canada is 32 million with most of the people living within a few hours of the Canada/US border.  Contemporary Canada is an ethnically diverse country, with immigrants from all corners of the globe, as well as a strong aboriginal population.  Ethno-cultural diversity conditions the originality of the Canadian cultural experience. Being in Canada you can celebrate Chinese New Year in Vancouver's China town, enjoy the real Wild West at Calgary Stampede, learn fishing secrets of natives at Salmon Festival on the Vancouver Island, have authentic curry in Toronto's Little India or else just sip a Vietnamese cafe au lait in Montreal.

As diverse geographically as it is culturally, Canada will astonish you with it's variety of landscapes.

The mountain ranges of western Canada meet the prairies of the Great Plains in Alberta which stretch all the way to the Great Lakes. The ancient landscape of the Appalachians in the east makes way for the dramatic coastal scenery of the Atlantic Provinces, whilst the north of the country is dominated by arctic tundra.  Following this incredible multitude of landscapes are your various adventure choices: whale watching and fishing, skiing and snowboarding, hiking and horseback riding, rafting and kayaking, wine tasting and yachting. Whether you're looking for inspiration, action or relaxation Canada welcomes you and is waiting to be discovered, relished and remembered forever.
